It’s All About The “Put Back”

Ever find yourself walking around the house with an item in hand, thinking:
“I know this goes somewhere…”
“I bet this has the perfect spot it should return to…”
“If I could just remember where it goes.”

Of course not! I can guarantee almost none of us do this regularly.
But boy oh boy do we spend time searching for items. All. Of. The. Time.

We’ll hunt up and down, in and out, all around the entire house to find that one thing we know we have… but can’t remember where we put it. Ugh. It’s frustrating, it’s annoying, and it always seems to happen when we’re in a rush, right?

Here’s the thing:
Items have to be easy to put back—or they’ll stay out and contribute to overall clutter.

Quick Tip: The location where you most often use or need an item is a clear indicator of where it should be stored. So, if you find yourself running from room to room just to track something down, chances are, it needs a more logical and convenient home to return to.

It’s human nature to go the extra mile to find something we need—but not necessarily to put it back.

Organizing with the “put back” in mind will not only make it easier to locate your things, but will reduce clutter, cut down on confusion, and save you precious time.

Here’s to hunting a little less!
