A New Chapter, Beloved Traditions: Holiday Decorating in a New Home
This year, we had the privilege of helping a wonderful couple in their 70s bring holiday magic into their new home for the very first time. After more than 40 years of decorating on their own, it wasn’t easy for them to ask for help - but with a recent back surgery for one and the other managing an ankle injury - they knew it was worth it. They wanted their home festive and ready for family gatherings while also taking care to protect their health.
Because our team had worked with them over the summer during their move, they trusted us and were confident we could get their home holiday-ready quickly, safely and beautifully.
Unpacking their decorations was a true delight. Their collection included several themed trees - the Santa tree (yes, only Santa ornaments on this one), the angel tree (yes, only angels), the reindeer tree, the homemade ornament tree, and more - each piece telling a story.
Most of the décor had been passed down through two generations, lovingly curated by family, making every ornament a memory to cherish. Hearing the stories behind each piece and helping place them in their new home felt like stepping into a living history of family holidays.
Since this was their first year decorating in a new space after 20+ years in their previous home, we helped shift their beloved décor into new rooms and across different levels of the home, finding just the right spots for each treasured piece. Along the way, there were a few items to donate - pieces the client didn’t love or no longer wanted - everything else found a happy home, beautifully arranged to honor tradition while embracing their new surroundings.
By the end of the day, the house was ready for the season: cozy, festive, and filled with stories waiting to be shared. The couple could relax and enjoy the holiday with their family, knowing that in early January, we’ll return to takedown, organize and store everything safely - making the start of the new year stress-free.
Decorating isn’t just about placing ornaments and garlands. For this couple, it was about preserving memories, honoring tradition and celebrating family, all while making their new house a home. It was a joy to help them bring that vision to life.
